Our most famous and most valuable statue is back from a trip to London. Christ in Majesty was originally placed atop the pulpit in the church but was moved to the Abbots house shortly before the dissolution where it was eventually uncovered hundreds of years later. It has been a significant part of the exhibition celebrating the centenary of English Heritage at Wellington Arch but now its back where it belongs, at the abbey! Note the detail in the stonework such as the amazing craftsmanship in creating a tied bow on such a small scale. We can only guess whether the head was removed when the abbey was ransacked by the Scots or perhaps during the chaos of the dissolution.
