Our new Movie of the Week is the 1985 action flick Commando. Originally written as a vehicle for Kiss bass player Gene Simmons (who ultimately turned the role down), it was then modified for Nick Nolte (who also turned down the role), then retooled to portray a former Mossad agent, before finally being reworked into the film we all know today and having Arnold Schwarzenegger cast as the main protagonist, a retired Delta Force Operative named John Matrix. The film also stars Rae Dawn Chong as an off duty flight attendant named Cindy, whose aid Colonel Matrix (Schwarzenegger) enlists to rescue his daughter Jenny, played by Alyssa Milano, who was kidnapped by some mercenaries led by Colonel Matrixs former teammate Bennett (played by Vernon Wells) as part of an extortion plot to get Colonel Matrix to carry out a political assassination for a South American dictator named Arius (played by Dan Hedaya). Arius wishes to lead a military coup in his home country of Val Verde. What ensues is 80s action film kick assery at its finest. So here is our new movie of the week, Commando.
