Our new pigs. Two Large Blacks-a boar and a sow-and two Durocs-both gilts. The girls are all expecting in February. Our Large Blacks are registered. They are an endangered breed. However, prior to industrial farming, at the beginning of the 20th century, Large Blacks were commonly seen on farms across Ontario. Durocs are an American breed that was developed at the beginning of the 19th century and were commonly found on farms in New England. Durocs are known to be extremely friendly. Weve also found out that our new boar (weighing in around 500 lbs already) loves belly, ear and back rubs ☺️.
