Our new segment, Movement of the Week is here! Today we are kicking off with an exercise known as the Bat Wing which unfortunately has nothing to do with the caped crusader. For anyone who sits at a desk for long periods of time and is starting to get that hunchback look or for those people that think everyday is bench press day, this is the exercise for you. Healthy shoulders and good overhead position rely on many factors one of which is good scapula function or your scapulas ability to stabilise the shoulder joint. One of the key muscles involved are the rhomboids which get massively overlooked in a typical workout and therefore begin to go into sleep mode. The Bat Wing will not only help you to re-gain good rhomboid function but also improve posture which has shown to affect strength gains and of course injury prevention. Finally for those who are maybe struggling to finish the last part of their pull-ups due to mobility restrictions, or missing that last bit of strength, this is a great exercise to add to your toolkit. Take some before and after photos to see any postural improvements after a few weeks of doing the exercise. Aim to complete 3-4 sets of 3-5 10 seconds holds ensuring perfect technique is adopted otherwise you are wasting your time and using other muscles that you will probably be using when you do other pulling exercises such as 1 arm rows. Give them a try! https://youtube/watch?v=4xjQMUUnoHY
