Our next interview is with Heinz Zolti from Austria. Kenny Berdine and Chris Schatte Thank you heinz zölti for taking the time to have this interview for our page . Our page is all about fly tying and fly fishing, we have a very diverse fan base. Lets get started 1 Can you give us a basic bio of yourself? Hello Kenny! Thanks for inviting me to this interview! Please excuse, if there are some grammatical mistakes in this interview.. I was born in Salzburg, where I still live with my wife and my two children. I´m 36 years old. Maybe you know Salzburg, it´s the town Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. The movie The sound of music was also made there. I did a commercial apprenticeship. Then I attended the evening school where I did my graduation. After a few years working in the office, most recently as sales manager of a large car dealership. Then one day I did not want to work as a salesperson anymore, I was burned out. Now I work at the gas station of my brother in law, for a half day. The rest of the day is dedicated to my family and fly tying. This year I have founded my company Noricum fishing flies. 2 Can you tell us a little about how you got started tying flies and the types of flies you like to tie ? I´ve got my first tying-vise, when I was 11 or 12 years old, and I started tying flies without knowing anything about fly tying. As you can imagine, with not much success... I had a book, but only with pictures of flies and the materials, there was no word how to start a fly or how to finish a fly, in this book. This was in 1990, no internet!! While a fishing trip in Slovenia, 2 or 3 years later, I´ve learned the basics from a very, very kindly women, called Mrs. Sluga. Anything else I´ve learned from books and of course learning by doing. Personally I like to tie flies with a woven body. Especially extended woven bodies. But my favorite pattern is definitely a Stonefly-nymph, of course with woven body... 3 Could you walk us through tying a realistic nymph and the time it takes for each one? I always make some drawings of the nymph I want to tie. The next step is to practice only parts of the fly. Sometimes I only tie legs on a hook, for example. When I´m happy with every part, I start to tie the whole nymph. Watching Insects is also a great passion of me, and of course very helpful! It takes me up to three hours to tie difficult patterns, like twisted stoneflies. 4 We know you have a passion for fly tying ,but what about fly fishing? What are some of the fish you target and the types of waters you fish ? Are the rivers ,creeks or still water? My hometown is surrounded from many beautiful waters. There are lakes, rivers and creeks! I love to fish in little creeks for brown trout, but my favorite is a fish we call Barbe (lat. Barbus Barbus). A very strong fighter on the fly-rod, wich is usually caught with nymphs. I´ve been in Slovenia very often, especially on the river Soca, a beautiful river with big trouts. There you have the possibility to catch a trout named Marmorata (lat. Salmo trutta marmoratus), a very interesting fish! 5 Is there anything else you would like people to know about you and your fly tying that has not been said ? Yes, I support a charity-event. The name of the event is Eine Fliegenbox auf Reisen, just visit this site on facebook, you´ll also see nice flies there!! It is a story about 43 fly tiers from Europe who will help children with cancer, with their hobby. This event ends with an auction where you can bid on great stuff for a good cause, for example original flies from Lefty Kreh... And of course some framed flies from me... Thanks heinz .. for this opportunity to have this interview with you . The people of fly tiers anonymous will appreciate your interview .
