Our next online auction is in support of Out of the Cold Emergency Winter Shelter. The Out of the Cold Emergency Winter Shelter (OTCS) is a community-based, volunteer-run winter shelter in its seventh year of operation. The shelter is located at Saint Matthews United Church at 1479 Barrington Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The primary goal of the shelter is to provide safe accommodation to homeless and street-involved people throughout the cold winter months. The shelter provides a welcoming alternative shelter environment with a high staff-to-guest ratio. OTCS has 15 beds open to men, women, transgender people, and youth with an average of 4 to 6 volunteers on duty each night. I know personally of the work they do. I volunteered one winter and was surprised by the number of youth who accessed the shelter. If youd like to make a donation to our auction scheduled for December 01, please leave your name here. Donations accepted up until Sunday, November 23. Id also ask you consider donating any gently used winter apparel. The shelter has a clothing donation centre that supplies homeless individuals with items they may not have. Ill coordinate a date to gather your donations closer to the end of November. It is a sad reality that people in our own communities are homeless, many for reasons you might never consider. We can help by sharing what we no longer use with those who need it more.
