Our next performer is a complete unknown and newcomer to the belly dance world, and were quite certain none of you have heard of her. Really, its amazing that shes performing at both the Auckland AND Christchurch shows. We pretty much HAVE to promote her, so that when you rock up to the retreat and Christchurch workshops, youll be able to pretend you know who she is. Heres the remarkably obscure Candice Frankland! Candice Frankland is the founder and director of Phoenix Belly Dance, a multi-award winning entertainment company and performance troupe. She recently won a spot in Bellydance Evolution, performing in Sydney alongside Jillina, Sharon Kihara, and Kaeshi Chai. Candice has trained extensively in many folkloric and oriental styles of belly dance, travelled to Turkey to continue her education, produced theatre shows, and hosted local and international teachers including Kaeshi Chai and Aziza. Some of her biggest influencers as instructors include: Aziza, Azad Khan, Didem, Jillina, Kaeshi and Dina. Candices signature style fuses contemporary concepts with the traditional roots of belly dance. She has been working hard at growing the community and elevating belly dance in New Zealand to be taken as a serious dance form through extraordinary performances, theatre shows, collaborative projects, hosting international teachers and the annual Weekend Belly Dance Retreat.
