Our next storm will arrive during the second half of the Wednesday - TopicsExpress

Our next storm will arrive during the second half of the Wednesday morning rush. It will bring accumulating snow along with it. Just like the last clipper (on January 6th), this clipper will be riding right along the rain/snow line. Snow is likely from the DC Metro area on northward, while Southern Maryland, The Northern Neck and Central Virginia will see mostly rain with a coating of snow possible. Even for areas that are expected to get snow, accumulations should be in the light coating to just over one inch. One inch totals will be found closer to the MD/PA border. The timing of this next storm is going to make for its own challenge. The bulk of the precipitation (be it rain OR snow) is likely to fall between 11AM and 3PM - just after the AM rush and before the ride home. This also means that the snow will have to fall during the heating of the day - which complicates the forecast even more. For example, in the metro, we could see snow falling at 35°. This would greatly help road crews to stay ahead of things and it would make the road salt/chemicals quite effective. The question will then become: how much can the snow accumulate with temps above freezing? Even with daytime heating in our favor, the PM commute will be impacted. Plan ahead for the potential of early dismissals and a slow ride home. Quiet weather returns on Thursday and Friday. TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy And Cold Dry & Cold LOWS: 28°- 30° WEDNESDAY: Cloudy With Snow Likely Some Accumulations DC Northward Rain/Snow Mix South Of Metro Wind: Northeast 8-16 mph HIGHS: 34°- 38° THURSDAY: Mostly sunny Milder Than Average HIGHS: 45° - 47°
