Our notion of the family as the safeguard of our species has not evolved. Instead, it has devolved to the point that we tolerate unprotective, even violently abusive parents. It has devolved to the point that we tolerate predators within a childs circle of trust — in schools, in sports, within religious organizations. It has devolved to the point that abusers, even after they have been exposed, are permitted further opportunities to prey.
