Our observations from handing out quite a few hundred, bugger it, Ill say a thousand, leaflets at the Esplanade Train Station and from others who went down to the foreshore the Wellington Street Train Station... Colin Barnett, youre gone. The natives are restless. This Shark Mitigation Policy is reeking. Big time. Okay, more detail: I maybe had 4 or 5 people say they were for the policy. Not nastily, just matter of fact. One said Im a diver mate, hate em Maybe 10 or 20 or so said they were indifferent, didnt respond at all for the first 2 hours when I was asking Have you heard about the shark issue at the moment?, or responded with comments like I dont go to the beach mate, I dont care. Okay... So, of the people that did respond, I estimate that 95% were against the policy. At times, I couldnt hand out leaflets fast enough, people were literally queuing to get them off me. Some generall observations, from me and the helpers that I talked to afterwards: People would walk past, while I said Save the Sharks, Cottesloe Beach, Saturday, the, process what I said and come back and get one. Females took leaflets more than males. Promise, I didnt target the females more! Subject recognition was high. By far the majority of people responded yes, when I asked if they were aware of the shark issue. A lot of feedback such as Disgusting ashamed terrible. Some discussions, one guy thought only GWSs were on the kill list. Soon corrected that. Overall, my faith in humanity has, largely been restored. If even just 75% of the people come, then there wont be room! Woohoo!! Thanks all...
