Our passports refer to us as subject and not as citizens. In - TopicsExpress

Our passports refer to us as subject and not as citizens. In effect Bahrainis are subject of the ruling family and they can revoke our right to be a citizen as they have done here. The previous constitution states that Bahrain and all its inhabitants are the property of Al-Khalifah. The new constitution, passed just over a decade ago, was put to public voting; that if they choose to appoint the crown prince, Sheikh Hammad, as a king, then he would allow them a democratic parliament, similar to the UK. Bahrainis voted in support of this system. However, our King reneged on his promise. As a result, people took to streets and camped at Pearl Roundabout to remind the King of his promise. After a week of peaceful demonstration, with whole families camping there, cooking and showing their faces openly, the police attacked them early one morning at dawn. Many were killed and many more were taken from their homes, tortured, forced to sign false statements under duress and imprisoned. The rest is history as they say but I still believe in the human dignity that everyone of us have, even though it my be deeply buried in some due to their upbringing. Peace out.
