Our plan to get up early and miss the crowds at Versailles worked, - TopicsExpress

Our plan to get up early and miss the crowds at Versailles worked, well kinda. We got tickets and entry no trouble, but wandering through a one way palace with screaming hordes of picture-taking, selfie-snapping maniacal tourists who filled each room so disgustingly that it seriously withdrew from the experience, was not winning. BUT I am pleased we went as the palace and grounds were spectacular. So many frescos and chandeliers. Consumed our first crepes (jambon et fromage) for lunch and continued through to Marie-Antoinettes estate. Home for a rest and Boulanger treats, as wed walked too many kilometres around that huge estate to count, then back out to Musee dOrsay. And I would recommend to anyone in Paris for only a short time, to do this art gallery/museum instead of the Louvre. Yes, seriously. Especially if you like Impressionist, Post-Impressionist or Neo-Impressionist. Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Manet, Degas and more, out your ears. Way better than the Louvre, but ssshhh, dont tell the French! Culture of the day was first an accordion player then a violin player serenading train passengers on two separate trips. For a price of course. SJS
