Our poor Auburn town... I was in Walgreens the other day, waiting in line to check out and two middle-aged men who were in the store shopping around at the same time I was, proceeded to walk out of the store with a razor scooter, a pay as you go phone and other misc. items they did not pay for. They did not even act like they were in a hurry or worried about being caught. Thanks to the new, wonderful law that was passed, even if they were caught, as long as the items are less than $950 they are slapped with a misdemeanor and not a felony. The Walgreen employees were upset but afraid so they did not confront them(I dont blame them). These guys were decently dressed and did not look poor. They were stealing to re-sell is my guess. I can not believe California was so stupid to pass a law like this. A Placer County Sheriff friend of mine, said it will only get worse with thefts like this. What can we do???
