Our reading for September 7 is from the community chronicle, September 7, 1936: Labor Day. Mother gave a little talk about the work and asked all to help together till the obediences are arranged. At 8:30 all members of the academy and college faculty assembled in the reception room of the recently vacated novitiate. Mother gave a talk stressing cooperation, forbearance, charity, etc. She reminded us of the Benedictine spirit, that splendid spirit of family life and encouraged us to be good Benedictines, and this would assure good instructors. There were about 36 sisters present for her talk. From the time we moved into the present convent till her death, Sister Rosalia, procurator, occupied the first room on the west side of the second floor corridor. When Sr. Dolorosa succeeded as procurator, she has occupied this room. Today she transferred to the 4th room on the same side and floor as the first room is to be “taken over” in connection with the new building. ... The first work of tearing down the novitiate building started today, for men began taking down the metal ceilings on the 2nd floor and the electric fixtures and wires.
