Our search for a replacement for John Moss has ended. We wish John all the very best with his retirement from second euphonium. Principal euphonium David Childs commented, Im extremely sorry to see John leave. Hes been a great support to me during the last year; not just a great bandsman, but a fine player too. Flowers Band are delighted to announce the appointment of Grant Jameson as their new second euphonium. Grant studies with David Childs at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and has been solo euphonium with Tredegar, Tongwynlais, and most recently Woodfalls. Grant commented, “I have had wonderful opportunities to learn from everyone in each of the bands I’ve been associated with up to now and am deeply grateful for each of those experiences. However, I could not be happier to be joining Flowers and have the opportunity to contribute to this great band whilst learning from my teacher, and principal euphonium, David Childs.” At just 20 years old, Grant has already achieved a great deal. He was the first euphonium soloist ever to win the concerto competition at the Interlochen International Music Camp, where he was also chosen as a Fennell scholar. He also appeared on the National Public Radio program “From the Top” as a soloist, and was runner-up in the Falcone Competition. Since coming to the UK, Grant has been a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Musician of the Year, won the Best Soloist prize at the 2014 Welsh Open, and was a finalist for the RWCMD Concerto Competition both this year and last. Over the next few weeks he will be beginning sessions for his first solo CD, which will be released late next summer. Grant will make his debut on 2nd euphonium with Flowers Band at Butlins in January.
