Our second project for today is Hunter. Hunter is a approximate 1 year old catahoula. One night when his owner let him out to potty, he went over to the 16 year old neighbors house with the owners outdoor pitbull. The neighbor decided it would be fun to shoot the pit at close range with a shotgun but missed and hit Hunter. After the owner didnt seek treatment for days, Animal Aid for Vermilion Area rescue was contacted by a concerned friend. They immediately contacted animal control to gain possession of Hunter. That night, they rushed Hunter to the emergency vet where he spent the night; it was determined that emergency amputation was not necessary and that he could wait until the next day to see the regular vet. The next day Hunter was taken into the rescues regular vet where he got xrays and wound care for the rotting, infected tissue. After seeing the xray, it was clear that his leg was riddled with buckshot and his bone suffered a crackle fracture. The biggest concern at this point is infection of the bone or wound. If his leg becomes infected he will require amputation, until then the vet works a little bit each day, picking individual pieces of buckshot out of the wound. Due to the sensitive care that Hunter needs, he is staying at the vet around the clock, so much so he is spending the weekend at the vets home to ensure proper care. AAVA rescue would really appreciate some help with the cost so they can get this boy back on his feet and into a new home where he will receive proper love and care. Thank you! fundapetmiracle/projects/hunter-was-shot1/1071
