Our selfishness puts us in opposition with the will and Word of God. What we do not forbid to operate in us, we allow by default. God is love and His love in us opposes our pride and the fruit of our selfishness. The Holy Spirit of God causes the love of God to convict us of our selfishness and convince us to walk in the characteristics of His Love. The grace of God is His power working in us helping us to be who He wants us to be and do what He wants us to do. Grace isnt meant to free us from the work of developing our Christian character. We must discipline our flesh and make it obey God. There is no cheap way out of this. It is hard work to renew our mind and align it with heaven in order to conquer selfishness but this work is the foundation on which God releases His greatness. Many of us want God to use us to do something great and we pray and plead with God to use us but we dont understand that God will only release to us the amount of greatness that our character can carry effectively. In His love for us God reserves the right to decide the amount of His greatness our character can carry. If God were to give us what we asked for many times it would destroy us. As His representatives here on earth how we display His character is crucial. So yes, dealing with our selfishness is very important. It is always easier to see someone elses self-centeredness than it is to recognize our own, but we must look at ourselves first and take personal responsibility for our selfish ways. The evidence that that the Love of God is working in us is seen in us when we recognize and overcome our selfishness. God help us overcome our selfish mind set that opens us up to the enemies snares. Help us recognize where it is working in us so we can repent. Let Your perfect love drive all selfishness out of us. In Jesus Name
