Our son has a great group of friends that he met during his high school career. Many times he has said I have a lot of back-up moms and dads. His back-up parents were parents of his close friends. I realize that the kids that grow up beside our children hold a special place in our hearts, they are like our back-up kids (to borrow a phrase from our son) . One of our sons close friends is currently battling cancer. We went to see him tonight in the hospital and he is carrying himself with grace and strength.
