Our tax dollars at work. MRAPS are not exactly roomy on the inside. This is a horrible idea. If they were going to get a free piece of equipment for search and rescue I am sure there is an old fashioned HMMWV ambulance or a regular ambulance for that matter. The other thing about an MRAP is the vehicle itself is dangerous. Drivers have very limited vision to maneuver. The doors themselves way 500LBS and can crush fingers of the unwary. This not a very good vehicle for police work either. If the police need a armoured vehicle to serve a high risk warrant they probably should have one with firing ports.
