Our temperatures in the south of the Uk have not dropped yet, - TopicsExpress

Our temperatures in the south of the Uk have not dropped yet, however our paddock is totally smothered in seeds, this is the latest alert, I do know (from personal experience) that this is a very distressing thing to encounter, but please if you encounter this, please do take the time to report it on the link below, then the numbers of cases will be more accurate, as will the warning for all countries, personally I monitor this for the safety of the remainder of our horses. I know we have had cases in the UK, but they are not showing here yet so most likely not reported: tFlag_grande_bretagne_1606.gif ENGLISH The number of cases of atypical myopathy is increasing these days. Please forward the message below to your contacts through your Facebook account. Invite your contacts to register to receive alert messages via the official Internet site run by researchers at the University of Liege: myopathieatypique.fr/en/ If you are aware of a case, THANK YOU to declare the case: - as an owner, via the link : myopathieatypique.fr/en/declarer-un-cas/questionnaire-proprietaire/ - as a vet, via the link : https://myopathieatypique.fr/espace-professionels/veterinary-form/ If you are short on time, you can make a quick statement via the link (and complete your return later): myopathieatypique.fr/en/declarer-un-cas/primo-declaration/ AUTUMN 2013 – At the date of the 31nd of October 2013, 18 clinical cases compatible with the diagnosis of atypical myopathy have been communicated to Liege University and to the RESPE. These cases were recorded in Belgium (10 cases), Germany (3 cases) and France (5 cases). The seasonal climate conditions are those favourable to the emergence of cases of atypical myopathy. Today we know that the toxin responsible for the condition is present in the seeds of some Acer such as Acer pseudoplatanus (= maple tree; see (myopathieatypique.fr/en/etiologie/). Hence it is important to prevent horses from ingesting those seeds. With temperature changes the seeds will begin to fall and the risk of poisoning get important. If feasible, access to pastures where Acer can be found, must be limited. In the link below you will find information (in French) on atypical myopathy. reflexions.ulg.ac.be/cms/c_349179/lexplication-scientifique-aux-mortalites-fulgurantes-chez-les-chevaux-au-pre-en-automne-a-ete-decouverte-le-coupable-est-un-erable Yours sincerely
