Our tour visiting numerous Divisions is now complete. I used up - TopicsExpress

Our tour visiting numerous Divisions is now complete. I used up all of my outstanding vacation to visit as many locations as possible. Its really too bad we could not visit more locations, but we met with over 500 members through 29 meetings, across 5 provinces. It has been a very rewarding experience, we met so many good people who share our concerns with what we have witnessed the past 4 years, and who want to join in and be part of the solutions. Something a younger Brother said the other day has stuck with me and I think about this a lot. We were discussing the necessity of motivating our younger members to become active in the Division. He explained that a lot of newer members, and some not so new, actually pay more attention to what is going on that we think. He explained the younger members do not like the negative attitudes that some of the older members demonstrate towards the Union, many younger members no longer attend the Division meetings because of the negativity some of the older members and even officers within his Division bring to the meetings. We agreed that to motivate members of any age there has to be a positive influence associated with the Union, and also demonstrated by the elected Officers. Training, Education, support and skill development for the officers are primary tools to make a positive impact at every Division. Improved communication is essential, and our ideas to improve communication have really been well received. Our plan to provide instruction courses to the general membership to raise their level of knowledge about relevant issues, has been very popular and many see it as a major improvement. We are hopeful the majority of the membership are inspired to participate in this election and will cast their vote. There is so much more we can do together and there is so much more we can do to improve the effectiveness of the Union, and improve the relationship with the membership. The 29 meetings with the members has given us the clear message the membership wants improvements, they know the Union has stagnated these past 4 years, and they want to elect national officers who will deliver the improvements. Ballots are out now. Its time to vote. Its time for the TCRC to get back to being a Union and fighting for the rights of the membership and representing the memberships interests.
