Our under 16 team built on last week’s victory against Cloughaneely with another good win over a physically strong Buncrana side in Portsalon this evening by 0-12 to 1-06. We were not at full strength this evening but one of the most pleasing aspects from the game was the performance from the boys who came in with Michael Blaney catching the eye, especially in the first half. We led by 0-07 to 0-02 at half time with six different players getting their name on the score sheet. Michael Shiels opened the scoring with Michael Blaney adding another point soon after. Alan Mc Ateer, Niall Carr and the midfield pairing of Aidan Heraghty and James Gallagher also scored points in the opening period. The Fanad Gaels full back line dealt very well with the Buncrana full forward line, with Odhrán Shiels looking very assured at full back. Buncrana staged a mini revival in the second half and could have cut the deficit to two points only for a brilliant penalty save from Paul O’ Connor. Fanad then kicked on with scores from Niall Carr, James Gallagher and Conor Mc Fadden to take complete control of the game. Buncrana did score a consolation goal at the very end to leave three points between the teams but it was game Fanad never looked like losing. It was another impressive performance from the boys with seven different players getting on the score sheet. Next up is a game against Malin on Friday evening in Portsalon. The team was Paul O’Connor, Bernard Martin, Odhrán Shiels, Jack Friel, Conor Mc Fadden, Oisín Mc Fadden, Michael Shiels (0.1), James Gallagher (0.1) , Aidan Heraghty (0.1), Shane Mc Ginley, Niall Carr (0.4), Michael Blaney (0.1), Paddy Carr, Alan Mc Ateer (0.1), Conor Mc Devitt. Subs: Paul Gibbons for Shane Mc Ginley, Conor Carr for Michael Blaney, Shane Mc Elwaine for Conor Mc Devitt, David Ward for Alan Mc Ateer.
