Our upcoming season: Socorro Community Theater 2013/2014 Youth on Stage, July 22-August 8. Workshop M-F 1-5 pm. Performance Thursday, August 8, 7:00 pm, Cottonwood Valley Charter School. This is the second annual summer workshop directed by Eileen Comstock. Children ages 6-16 will learn about all aspects of theater when they embellish a folk tale, act in and help produce a play! For more information or to help out, call Eileen at 575-418-7752. Annual Membership Meeting and Potluck, Saturday, August 24, Meeting at 5, Potluck & Party at 5:30. This party is open to all friends of Socorro Community Theater, not just paid members. Please feel free to invite anyone who loves theater! Family members and friends are also welcome. The business meeting is short but open to all, and includes voting for the Board (only paid members are eligible to vote), Treasurer’s Report, etc. We are planning to have monologues and teasers for the evening entertainment! For more information, call Judy at 835-0134. “The Lion in Winter” by James Goldman, Performances November 15-17 & 20, Garcia Opera House. Directed by Jordana George, this is a classic dramedy set in 1183 and involves King Henry II and Queen Eleanor fighting over who will be heir to the kingdom. Lots of fun roles for actors! Auditions are tentatively scheduled for August 27-28. The play calls for 5m, 2f. We are also looking for various production crew, including a technical director for sound and lighting, a stage manager, stage/set crew, publicity lead/helpers, a dramaturge (to research the period and share with the actors), props people (think medieval!), makeup, box office, and more! Michael Donovan will be directing Bryan Hurtgen and John Stokes in an experimental collaboration. Forget the movie with Daniel Radcliffe! This gothic ghost story is a fascinating play which is based on the book by Susan Hill. We will need help with technical, sets, run crew, etc. For more information, call Karin at 838-0379. “Spirit of Hispania” by Jules Tasca. Performances May 2-4, location TBA. Bryan Hurtgen will be directing this wonderful set of four Hispanic folk tales for Cinco de Mayo. Maria, The Baker’s Neighbor, Repaying Good with Evil, and The Rabbit Who Wanted to be a Man are all introduced by a Narrator. Lots of great roles for a variety of ages!
