Our vey own Lynn Confer wrote this for the Spinal Column, look for it to be published! As we age little by little our independence is threatened, we spend more and more time alone and may feel isolated. We’re told we should not drive anymore, and find that we must rely on the kindness of others to make a simple trip to the grocery store. Doing housework becomes more and more difficult and if stairs are involved, doing laundry can be downright dangerous. Making and eating a meal alone is depressing, so we just grab anything that’s easy but not necessarily healthy. Our children worry about us, and they begin to ask themselves what is the best course of action? How can I be sure that my parents are safe and cared for when I’m not able to be with them? Where do I start? Moving your loved one into a senior facility may seem like the logical answer, and depending on their needs it may be. If they are fairly independent, able to get into the bathroom and dress unaided for instance, then it can work. Unfortunately, there have been too many times we have seen an elderly person moved from their home, only to experience the same loneliness in a new and unfamiliar place. Should they need help to the bathroom or an escort to the dining room for meals, not only are they at the mercy of the aide assigned to them that day, ala carte expenses are also incurred. When all is said and done, you may find yourself seeking outside care regardless. Age With Grace Senior Care is a non-medical homecare company that can help. We provide transportation, meal preparation, light housekeeping and medication reminders to name a few, but most importantly we provide friendship. Your loved one will receive one on one care in the comfort of their home, and research shows that being home promotes optimum health for mind and body. The time we spend is customized for each client, from a 2 hour shift to 24/7 care we are here to help. Your loved one will remain in their own home, surrounded by their own possessions, in an environment that is familiar to them. We will work together to form a care plan that is affordable and beneficial to you and your family, and as your needs change we will be happy to accommodate them. Please call to arrange a complimentary visit to discuss your needs at 248-529-6431.
