Our wonderful Gardien, Jon Troy, at Elizabeth Castle has been hard at work in the grounds recently. The wild flowers and clipped grass form a nicely scalloped edge at Ft. Charles, above the entrance of Elizabeth Castle. This is the aesthetics of formal gardening beautifully applied to environmental management by Jon. The display of wild flowers peaks around mid-June and was a little past its best by the time this photo was taken and with a little rain the grass would look less parched, but it remains an object lesson in how to manage site landscape for wildlife without compromising presentation.
