Our wonderful volunteer Anne-Marie Bradshaw, has just returned from volunteering on our Kariega Project in South Africa with disadvantaged youth in the townships of Kenton-on-Sea. Here is her feedback: “Being on the wrong side of 40 (ok 50!) I booked this trip nervously. This rates as one of the most amazing holidays I’ve ever had. The warmth of South African people, regardless of colour, is apparent and heartfelt from the onset. I’ve never hugged or been hugged so much in my life! Spending time in the townships with the children has been a wonderful experience which I will never forget. Seeing the children’s faces when I spoke Xhosa was amazing. Seeing the ‘gogos’ (grannies) faces when I greeted them ‘Bantwana’ (my children) was brilliant! Their singing and dancing was hauntingly beautiful. Another massive highlight for me was the coast line - peaceful, yet rugged and perfect as perfect gets … crashing waves and golden sand. Jenny and Andrew were also perfect hosts at our accommodation. Jenny never tired of my endless questions. My heart belongs in South Africa and although I won’t be close, it won’t be far from me and my thoughts and wishes.
