Out biking on the back country roads again today. When doing so I dont usually wear a helmet due to the lack of population. People in Wellington are quite direct if they spy you without a helmet, not so in Taranaki... Had been biking for quite a long time in the scorching sun so decided to walk the rest of the way with my bike beside me. A rather rough looking farmer pulls up beside me on his quad bike, with a quizzical look. Canya be flatteh arg da? - or so his rural accent sounded to my town ears. Pardon? I asked with my most polite middle class please dont hurt me face. I said have you got a flatty [flat tire]?. I didnt, but before I told him so he was already offering me a lift back to his farm to get it pumped up. So much better than what I expected - a safety lecture. Shout out to that very generous man!
