Out of Town ~ Seasons in the Garden - Deans Version 2 This is a second draft by Dean Eric Hoffman of Jack Hargreaves 1974 Out of Town episode Seasons in the garden. This work is part of the Restored to life project devoted to recovering incomplete Out of Town episodes existing as separate 16mm film and 1/4 reel-to-reel sound tape. This clip has involved Dean synchronising two separate mp4 files - one containing sound and the other film. The original film and tape has been digitised by Francis Niemczyk. I uploaded Francis DVD files containing sound (sound effects and Jacks commentary) and film shot on location by Stan Bréhaut. On previous episodes of Out of Town in the Restored to life project synchronisation has been done by Francis alone. I arranged with Francis to see if, by simply streaming on Vimeo the separate files containing the OOT sound and the OOT film Francis had digitised prior to synchronising, I could farm out the task of synchronising image and sound to volunteers. This film is the work of one of the first volunteers; what Dean who lives over 7000 miles from me, calls his second apprenticeship piece. I am benefitting through drawing on the interest, expertise, and generosity of members of these FB pages - a sophisticated form of crowd sourcing that would have intrigued Jack. Where there are studio sessions with Jack speaking to camera from his shed set at Southern TV in Northam, Southampton, there is only sound. Until the project finds a better of doing it weve agreed to fill in these parts of the programme with stills...a bit like boarding up broken shop windows I know, but perhaps better than just sound behind a blank screen.
