Out of all the books you read in high school, which ones did you hate and which did you love? Ditto for college. H.S. Hate -- Tess of the durbervilles and (my sincere apologies) everything Austen. Probably more, but Ive blocked them out. H.S. love -- Heart of Darkness, The Stranger, all Bradbury, all Steinbeck, all of Donnes poetry, and the Brontes, believe it or not. College hate -- Hard Times and (again, my sincere apologies to certain ppl, you know who you are) all Woolf and all Welty, and Death in Venice made my head hurt College love -- allllllll the Restoration and 18th century poems and plays like Sheridan, Pope, Swift (and eff you Facebook for suggesting Taylor Swift), Centlivre, Gay, etc.; all Murdoch (I love you and still miss you Dr. Mettler, Beth, dont cry!) and Chaucer because I felt smart reading it in the original (say it with me folk in a Dr. Crisp voice -- Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote. . .) and King Lear and Othello. Books I hated in h.s. but liked in college -- Their eyes were watching God, Beowulf
