Out of curiosity, I tried boosting a post on my Blog of Putrefaction page. I spent £5 and my post showed up in about 2000 timelines - those who like the page and their Facebook friends. My Wordpress view stats did shoot up. However, Im not sure I am comfortable spamming friends of likers. Presumably, many of those friends of likers are people who have no interest in underground metal. I think theres the option to more carefully target. Ideally, it would only show up in all the news feeds of those who have liked the page. (Facebook only shows the post to a small percentage of likers - prioritising those who have indicated a keener interest by interacting with previous posts by liking, commenting, or sharing.) And even then Im not sure that I am happy with the words promoted post or whatever appearing on it. I assume that people who have liked the page want to see my posts, which are mostly links to latest blog entries. I assume they would like to know theres a new post, but only a handful of people are told about them. Since Google Reader has gone away, Im not sure if RSS readers are really in use anymore. Theres already an option to subscribe to email alerts, but I have only seen a couple of people go for it. Most people dont want more emails. I will put an RSS button on the blog and perhaps some people will use it. I also tweet links but Twitter isnt a particularly efficient means of alerting people, either.
