Out of curiosity, does anyone have thoughts about the James - TopicsExpress

Out of curiosity, does anyone have thoughts about the James Franco/Seth Rogen vehicle that got shut down by North Korean hackers? Since I first learned about the film (weeks before any hacking efforts took place), I had already decided this was a horrifically BAD idea that made me feel uneasy. To me, the fact this film got green lighted and produced at all speaks to a level of privilege that is nearly epic. Did a group of movie executives really sit down and think (in this politically and racially charged climate) that a slapstick comedy about two bumbling white American journalists assassinating the leader of North Korea would not be insulting? At best, this was going to be an international embarrassment. At worst, well, this catastrophe could have been pretty bad. And yeah, yeah. I get that Its just a movie. Calm down. I appreciate that art should push limits and question authority. And Im not being a cheerleader for North Korea. Im just saying this type of American exceptionalism and unchecked privilege is only funny when you are completely oblivious to political realities and potentially bad outcomes. This terror threat may not be very serious. But in a post-9/11 world, is there any wonder why people are a bit raw with us?
