Out of the Box: Watching the Game We Love is a book on cricket and its author is none other than the hugely popular and highly revered Harsha Bhogle. When I first learned about this book, I thought that Harsha Bhogle, who is nothing less than a reservoir of knowledge on cricket, had actually thought out of the box and come up with an ingenious offering. Unfortunately, Out of the Box is nothing but a compilation of the articles that Harsha Bhogle has written for Indian Express over the years. I had once read a similar book by Sunil Gavaskar and that time too, I felt that simply stuffing all the columns and articles of a writer in one book isnt a very novel idea. Shane Warne took the pain of writing an article apiece on his 100 favorite cricketers in his book Shane Warnes Century: My Top 100 Cricketers, which in my view was a delightful read. Harsha Bhogle too could have done something similar. In fact, had he come up with Harshas Century: My Top 100 Cricketers, he would have been excused for committing a blatant act of plagiarism. I never thought I would derive more pleasure from reading a book by Yuvraj Singh (it was a very sincere effort and Yuvraj was wise enough to seek the assistance of Sharda Ugra) than by the so-called Richie Benaud of India.
