Outpouring of Support After Death of a Member The membership - TopicsExpress

Outpouring of Support After Death of a Member The membership has been extremely generous to the family of a member who lost his life a week ago following an overseas accident. Harlan Crouch, Jr. had been serving as Second Mate aboard the LIBERTY PRIDE. Recently married to his wife Caroline, they were expecting their first child in early September. The child, a boy, will be named Harlan P. Crouch III. The accident occurred at a shipyard in Bahrain and is still under investigation. Harlan, a 1996 Kings Point graduate, was only 44-years old. There will be a memorial service for Harlan at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday at the Safety Harbor Spa & Resort in Safety Harbor, FL. Active and retired members gave liberally at collections taken at halls across the country during the regular July membership meetings this week. Along with the contributions raised at the Union hall meetings, a generous Good and Welfare Fund contribution was provided for the family. Thanks to so many of you who have assisted the family in their time of need. Harlan had recently returned to the sea after a long hiatus. Before an earlier shipping stint, he started his own business importing and selling exotic tropical hardwoods. The Tampa hall has been coordinating M.E.B.A.’s support for the family as Harlan was a resident of Safety Harbor, FL. A commemorative brick that will be part of the Merchant Marine Memorial garden at the Calhoon M.E.B.A. School is also being ordered. A website has been set up for those who wish to help out Caroline with an online contribution: youcaring/memorial-fundraiser/prayers-for-caroline-hinkle-crouch/199110
