Outrage has its place, and its the medias place and charge to get it right, and accurately report facts. The best case for an out of control use of force by the government is them and us allowing and mandating the use of stop and frisk as a legitimate force against crime, pre-crime... This goes against any tenants of innocent until proven guilty and rights against illegal search and seizures. Instead of the media throwing fuel on fires in an effort to create or exacerbate racial tensions for ratings at selective opportunities, they would better serve us to report facts responsibly and consistently. Stop and frisk is the worst and most evident form of racial profiling and instills a long held disdain for the police, and the community that permits it. If the media reported the daily infringement of this type of policing, it would cease. It wouldnt be some thing that doesnt concern the community, or only concerns those that have been infringed upon. This collective disdain for the policy would be a uniting force. Ive talked to people about the stop and frisk policy, but until I showed them how it had become a monstrous use of force against otherwise innocent people as well as permitting unwarranted uses of force and intimidation, they didnt quite get what all the fuss was about. If youve ever been intimidated or subjected to this kind maltreatment you know the lasting effects it has, under any circumstance. The contention that comes from having your rights violated, is only the first part, the second and sometimes worst part of these things is not having any closure of justice. This is where I can empathize with communities like Ferguson and the like, blowing up after climatic incidents, like the shooting death of an unarmed person by the police. The inherent distrust is obvious and under those circumstances any opportunity to seemingly get justice is ceased upon, even if the circumstance is not completely known or understood. What this video about the Stop and Frisk policies shows, and you will understand/empathize with those that are given warranted disdain for the police.A lso know that the media has been hiding this from you in large part. That they arent generally interested in reporting general affronts by authority figures, but only those that can get ratings pushes, making hyperbolic situations instead of reporting actual situations. This video is about New York, but this policy is in use across the nation.
