Outstanding Young Guyanese # 13 Professional photographer Delano Williams (by Mondale Smith) It is often said that a pictures paints a thousand words and this being true then the man behind the camera deserves the credit for making the world for many a beautiful place. One such Guyanese youngster is professional photographer Delano Williams. I’ve known Delano as the boys would say since ‘19 oh long.’ And many have probably seen his work and said “I want one of these of myself” without knowing how to get it or who did it. Well here is the 411 or the 092 on this outstanding Guyanese Photographer, father, husband and dear friend. Delano Williams was born in Guyana on July 6, 1978. As a photojournalist he was attached to the Guyana Chronicle for seven years but has been practicing photography for the past twelve years. His training in photography was completed at the Kuru Kuru College where he acquired three Certificates in Photography. Aside from being a choice photographer for many members of parliament on both sides of the house and several major business men and jewelers local beauty queens and young professionals always flock to his studio to have this artist capture their images of family portraits, for portfolios, passports and visas et al While he is a professional photo journalist he made a conscious decision with support from his wife to start his own business which is ever growing. Delano who in recent years took to the gym to add mass to his petite structure has had hundreds of photographs taken by him featured in newspapers, magazines, on calendars and on websites. Notable is the fact that he has to his credit snapped photos that ultimately ended up on the covers of the 2002-2003 GT&T Directory. He was a regular contributor of photography for the Guyana Entertainment Magazine GEM, APSARA, the SHABEAU magazine of the Caribbean, AP and the Guyana Explore Magazines. Delano as photographer has also served as official photographer for most of the nation’s major pageants such as Ms. Guyana Universe, Ms. Guyana Talented Teen, Ms. Guyana/India and Ms. Guyana World. The latter is where he found his wife catwalk diva Ali Williams. Olive Gopaul, Suzette Shim and most of the Miss Guyana World queens from 2000-2007 had the privilege of him capturing their beauty as well as countless contestants. He is also one of the choice photographers of Guyana Press Association President Gordon Moseley and of course when ever I’m in Guyana I always go to Delano’s Xclusive photo studio to capture and take a few years off of my aging face. When asked of his international exploits he humbly states …nothing special just a few family portraits and architectural and landscape photography in the States and Trinidad and Tobago. In his profession thus far Delano has shot several land marks for GEM around Guyana. Derek Moore, Sonia Noel, Michel Cole-Rose, Olympia Small Sonnoram and most of the local designers have employed Delano to photograph their creations and as official photographer at the fashion lines. This former St. Margaret’s and Government Technical institute guy has to date fathered three children Kristal, Giovanni & Jonathan. The latter two are with his beautiful wife Ali. While Delano has had his fare share of ups and downs he has never totally quit on taking beautiful photographs to seal historical memories as a professional.
