Over 200 Youths Benefit From DESERP Skills No Fewer than 200 youths have been trained in various skill’s acquisition in what is known as Delta State Economic Reintegration Progamme (DESRP), located along Warri/Sapele Road Warri, Delta State. The programme, tagged “Helping You To Become All You Can Be”, is being coordinated by the member representing Delta Central in the House of Representatives, Hon. Barr. Evelyn Oboroh, and the Delta State Economic Reintegration programme aimed at building and sustaining a better quality of life for Delta State indigenes. The programme co-ordinator who said, she trained more than 200 youths last year, stated that she still hopes to train another 200 youths, by taking some of them off the labour market. She said, if only the Local, State, and Federal Governments can take vocational, technical and skills acquisition trainings very seriously, the issue of unemployment will be greatly reduced. On our part, he said, “we hope to train another set of 200 youths from the senatorial district in different entrepreneurial skills starting from April”. The coordinator disclosed that DESERP was set up by the Delta State Government in April 2010 with a mission to help improve the standard of living of Delta State indigenes in (DESOPADEC) mandate areas. The programme, she said, currently operates under the sponsorship of Delta State oil producing Areas Development Commission. (DESOPADEC). The objectives of the programme, according to her, is to create new job opportunities, help Deltans to be engaged in productive economic activities, provide access to business development services and encourage capacity building. The programme is a Resource centre with focus on catering, furniture work, hair dressing, household products manufacturing and fashion design. Other Entrepreneurship and Business Development available at the centre include Hat and Bead works, Automobile Training, Livestock Feeds production, pig farming, photography and Digital printing.
