Over 300 people have been arrested and detained in a security swoop in Mbarara town. A Joint security operation involving Uganda Police and army was launched early this morning in Mbarara Town and its suburbs early today. This follows a string of violent robberies and murders that have become rampant in Mbarara. The operation started from the notorious Kakoba Division and spread to other parts of the Town. Hundreds of Military and Police personnel have been deployed around Mbarara town to carry out the operation. Check points have been established at various spots and those found without proper identification documents are being detained for further screening. On Saturday night thugs broke in to UNDP office in Mbarara, clobbered a guard on duty and made off with his gun a day before a UN worker;Mr Andrew Mpubani was brutally attacked while approaching his gate at night. On Sunday night Mr Andrew Mpubani was attacked and stabbed several times by unknown assailants. He later died at Mayanja Memorial hospital where he was rushed while bleeding profusely.
