Over $5000 raised, over 1000 Kms ridden and every member of our team has started their rides! A very successful weekend for Team Calabao!!! Fantastic work from the entire crew of Team Calabao as we’ve reached another milestone! Weve raised over $5000 for Kids Cancer Research and we dont look to be stopping anytime soon! It was a great weekend for riding with a beautiful sunny day on Saturday and Sunday staying rain free which encouraged many of us to get out on our bikes! It was great to see that everyone from Team Calabao has now started to ride towards their individual pledged distances and helping the team ride down their first 1,000 Kms! We only have a little bit over 3 weeks to go in October so we’re definitely on track to ride down our pledged 4,000 Kms! Also, a BIG thank you has to go to all the generous members of Riverbend Golf Club for donating nearly $450 to our team on Saturday alone! It was a very successful fundraiser run by a few of us and hopefully there will be more opportunities to raise funds for our team at other events before the end of October. Collectively we have raised $5025, which was our new target goal after we reached $4,000 at the end of September. We only needed a week to achieve that in so keep up the great work everyone! Because it took us only 1 week to reach our goal, I thought I’d up the ante on all of us and set our new target to raise $10,000 before the end of October! If we keep up the hard work, then I know we can achieve this lofty goal! As extra incentive for our fundraising, did you know that Childhood cancer is the largest cause of childhood deaths from disease and in terms of life years lost is second only to breast cancer – for every child who dies at two years we have lost the potential of 78 years. More than 625 children will be diagnosed with childhood cancer in Australia every year. For the 18,000 survivors of childhood cancer in Australia today up to 70% will suffer side effects. 30% will have a permanent life-long condition such as infertility, heart condition, cognitive disorder or a secondary cancer as a result of their gruelling invasive childhood cancer treatment. Unfortunately, even if these kids survive this terrible disease, most of them will still be affected by it for their entire lives! Lets break this cycle of kids suffering from Cancer by raising another $5,000 for research into finding a cure!
