Over 70 Barossa grape growers turned out to a breakfast - TopicsExpress

Over 70 Barossa grape growers turned out to a breakfast information session at the Tanunda Footy Clubrooms this morning to find out more about how to improve their vineyard soil health in preparation for hotter, drier weather as a result of climate change. The breakfast workshop, organised by the Barossa Grape & Wine Association, featured SARDI soil health scientist Dr Belinda Rawnsley. Presentations were also made by graduates of Grape Barossa’s Next Crop leadership program for young grape growers, who talked about how they have changed their vineyard management practices to obtain more sustainable, profitable vineyard operations. The focus was on reducing inputs such as water and fertilisers by establishing mid-row swards and mulches which feed biota that create nutrients and pathways into the soil to improve water and nutrient infiltration.
