Over 70% of abuse victims say they have been financially abused and that is why they stay, become homeless or why they go back. It us hard to survive on your own with no credit and/or money. Abusers know that. I was abused this way and it has been hard to come back from this type of abuse. It has lasting effects. Rebuilding yourself financially can be done by talking to creditors, taking your name off of joint debts/accounts, transferring half of any joint account balances to your own account and keeping a list of all joint assets and debts to name a few options.
