Over Christmas Dinner, with friends and extended family, we got - TopicsExpress

Over Christmas Dinner, with friends and extended family, we got talking about Chivalry. How men never wore hats at the dinner table and so on. Then my friend Allisons Mom Pat, who is British, reminded me of something that I forgot about, but was told by my WW2 era folks, just like holding the door for a woman. How men should always walk to the outside (street side) when with a girl. Then my friend reminded me of where that tradition came from. From the days when people threw the contents of their chamber pots onto the street in the 19th century. I argued that it would be stupid to be on the outside, as the tossing would be on the inside. But apparently it wasnt so, they tossed the contents as far from the sidewalk as possible, so it was the man who took the hit! Then we ate Christmas dinner. :)
