Over the last few weeks, Ive been bold(er) about my feelings about the media and (fellow) fitness pros and the roles they play in our own personal perception. Some of the things Ive openly commented about include: > the notion that we are slackers or have given up if we dont have a six pack > the notion of utter perfection with our bodies > the guilt associated with not looking like fitness models > the fact that the images you see are not daily reality for anyone > the assumption that we have to be miserable to change our bodies Ive commented about these because they are close to my heart and because what we see in mainstream is total BS. As a result, Ive been advised by other health and wellness individuals that I need to go away, that Im a disgrace to what healthy looks like, that Im not real if I dont show my abs. Well, Im not going anywhere, mamas. Why? √ There needs to be a LOUD voice advocating for moms to feel beautiful every day, despite what the media says (most of you have not heard me in person...Im loud). √ There needs to be a force to stand up to the fitness bullies who tell us we are lazy, non-compliant failures because their fitness rules are absurd (huge eye roll) √ There needs to be someone who pushes back when women post that real moms lift more than babies or any other mom guilt BS that floods the memes (because sometimes holding JUST our babies is all we want to do, and that is *ok*.) √ There needs to be a beacon of light in the darkness and shame that come with motherhood, dieting, and every day struggles. √ Most of all, there needs to be a safe place to rest, to share, to laugh, and to be REAL. So there you have it. I just dug my heels in deep, because Im here for the long haul. I hope you are, too!
