Over the last few weeks, we have seen record temperatures. High temperatures coupled with high humidity can increase how much we all sweat and potentially lead to rapid dehydration. Dehydration negatively affects the functions of our organs and can lead to other issues that include headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, depression, and if left unattended, it can be life threatening. And when the body is dehydrated, it will slow down the enzyme processes causing the body to become more acidic. Thus, it is important that not only we drink lots of water – a minimum of 64 ounces per day. In addition to drinking water, we should make sure to include eating hydrating foods. According to the Institute of Medicine, approximately 20% of our water intake comes from the food we eat. Lucky for us that summer provides us with an abundant number of food options.
