Over the last few years I have voiced my opinion on the Heisman - TopicsExpress

Over the last few years I have voiced my opinion on the Heisman trophy process and its results! The last couple of years in particular I was somewhat blasted by a few friends and people I dont even know. My opinion is this, I feel as though you need to be a graduating or graduated senior to be an eligible candidate for the Heisman trophy. Last year I was called many names for this stance, including being called a racist because of the presence of black underclassmen candidates. If the person would have known me and seen my post from the year before they would know this to be way off base. This year I get yet more ammunition to support my stance. My understanding of the interpretation of the criteria to win the Heisman is this. The best collegiate football player of that year who performs with excellence while maintaining integrity. The excellence part doesnt seem to be much of an issue, its hard to dispute that the candidates have been anything short of gifted. Its the INTEGRITY part that the candidates of late have come up extremely short on! I feel like the only way the Heisman committee can protect the Integrity of the award is to only award it to graduating players whos collegiate career has ended. Not saying that they still wont mess up in the future but at least the integrity of the collegiate award is protected. We know the committee can vacate the award if needed (Reggie Bush), but why award a player such a prestigious award when you know that player has major Integrity and Character issues (James Winston, Johnny Manziel) when there are much more deserving players who have worked their butts off and did the right things in and out of school/football!
