Over the last month or so, Ive spent a lot of time posting articles and comments about the role of the police and trying to explain some of the negative perceptions about police. I would just like my friends to know that there are still many professional police officers yet today. And, I want you to know that the professionals are discussing topics that are of a concern to you, because we do want to Serve and Protect in the most professional manner possible. I don’t know about you, but I know exactly why I became a professional peace officer in the first place. It was to protect and serve. To put real bad guys — against whom I’d developed probable cause — in jail. I did not become a cop to contribute to a climate in which the average, law-abiding citizen was treated with suspicion, placed under surreptitious surveillance and made to feel guilty until proven innocent.
