Over the last several weeks I have noticed a growing trend on social media that has me both puzzled and concerned. I see people being too caught up in likes, comments, followers, EdgeRank and who can max out 5,000 friends first. Dont get me wrong, engagement is important, but what is even more important is QUALITY and VALUE. I see posts in my newsfeed from people that I honestly dont really understand who they are or their message because daily their direction is all over the place. When it comes to social media branding yourself (not your company) and being AUTHENTIC greatly out weighs being in a popularity contest. Likes, comments and EdgeRank can never take the place of sincerely connecting with an audience. There is no price that can be put on being open and transparent. Being YOU. Building a following based on the value that you give AND the value your network gives back you. Are we losing ourselves in social media? Is quality v. quantity becoming taboo?
