Over the last ten years, I have spent a huge amount of my time working to help five major regional food banks raise vitally needed resources to feed the hungry that are arriving at their doors in record numbers. Despite the hard work being done by so many, some 47 million Americans who receive food stamps will see their benefits shrink by an average of 5 percent this week, when additional financing for the food aid program included in the 2009 stimulus expires on today. Incredibly, 47% of those impacted are children under the age of 18. For all my friends whom life has blessed with comfort and reasonable prosperity, I ask you, could you feed a family of four, for a month, on $300? We have always fed hungry people, one food bank executive recently said. today, we are feeding desperate people. We can do better than this...
