Over the last two days we have received reports of a loud bang in and around the harbour at Mosman Bay and Cremorne Point. Just to keep you in the loop, some men were working in a boat shed near Mosman bay when they though a boat had crashed into the wharf. When they ran outside they found large amounts of silt, mud and air bubbles coming from the Harbour floor. Local police and water police attended but could not find any cause. Police divers attended and conducted a search of the harbour floor, finding no damage to the wharf or sea floor, although they did find an old sewer pipe that had been exposed. Many years ago there were apparently coal exploration holes drilled all over the Cremorne Point. It would appear that one of these holes has suffered a cave in causing the compressed air or water in the holes to find a way out travelling up the old sewer pipe and out into the harbour, hence the disturbance. The matter has been forwarded to the Harbour Authority for further investigation.
