Over the next few days, well see lots of thank yous directed to our active and veteran service members, and thats as it should be. But I wonder if anyone will remember that cuts to nutrition assistance affect hundreds of thousands of veterans and active duty military families, that sequestration has a direct effect on veterans, particularly those who are disabled or homeless, or that when a veterans job assistance bill was introduced in the Senate, it was filibustered by the GOP. It seems to me that saying thanks to our veterans and active duty military and their families should go beyond parades, flyovers and giant flags at football games, and little yellow ribbon magnets.
