Over the next week we will be spotlighting our Dubuque GOLD 8U-14U Managers. First up...Eric Munson. Eric will be coaching all of the teams in practice for the duration of the season. He will be managing the 8U and one of our 10U teams as well. Eric Munson was a High School USA Today first team All-American at Mt. Carmel in San Diego and was selected in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves in 1996. Eric elected to go to college at USC, where he earned honors as an first team All-American catcher, two time Team USA member, and 1998 College World Series Champion. Eric was the third overall pick in the 1999 MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers and made his Major League debut on July 18, 2000. Eric played multiple positions during his career. After parts of nine years in the Major Leagues, and twelve total seasons of professional baseball, Eric retired and began coaching at USC (2011-2012) and currently at the University of Dubuque. In the summer of 2013, Eric served as the Assistant Coach of the USA Baseball 18U National Team. They won the 2013 IBAF World Cup and gold medal in Taiwan. Eric is the owner of Eric Munson Baseball and his philosophy is to help develop all players regardless of age or level of play. He believes that they will learn even more about life than baseball, and will help mentor them during their time together. EMBs slogan The Right Way was carefully selected prior to our opening because it encompasses how he feels. Baseball is a game that should be respected. Our players will also be expected to respect themselves, their teammates, their coaches, opposing players, opposing coaches, umpires, and their families. A strong emphasis will be placed on academics throughout the year.
